Courts Jurisdictions changes

The changes to the monetary jurisdictions of the civil courts provided for in Section 2(1) and Part 3 of the Courts and Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2013 will take effect on 3rd February, 2014.

From 3rd February:

• the District Court in civil proceedings will deal with cases up to a value €15,000
• the Circuit Court in civil proceedings (other than personal injury claims) will deal with cases where the sum claimed is less than or equal to €75,000
• the Circuit Court will deal with personal injury actions where the compensation claimed is less than or equal to €60,000.
• All other cases with a greater value will be dealt with in the High Court or Commercial Court.
